Six Flags Has a Theme Park Trifecta in Jersey

Maybe you have never heard of Jackson Township, New Jersey, but more than likely you have heard of Six Flags Great Adventure, a theme park in this city just over an hour outside of the Big Apple.

Six Flags Great Adventure is the go-to amusement park in the tri-state area of New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. It’s just 60 miles from Newark, 67 miles from New York City, and 50 miles from Philadelphia. And it’s definitely worth the ride because it packs a triple whammy.

Great Adventure is just next door to Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, one of the biggest water parks in the entire country, and Six Flags Wild Safari Animal Park, a drive-thru safari that is home to over 1200 different animals.

Six Flags Great Adventure is famous for its thrill rides and is one of two Six Flags parks opening “The Dark Knight” roller coaster this summer. The Dark Knight is much more than just a roller coaster, though. This innovative dark joy ride combines the thrill of an indoor coaster with special effects, story telling, state-of-the-art sound and video, and the feeling that you are smack in the middle of a battle between good and evil.

The unveiling of The Dark Knight Coaster is timed perfectly to coincide with the release of “The Dark Knight” film on July 18. Riders actually get a preview to the film, because the coaster opens at Six Flags Great Adventure on May 15.

Great Adventure is having a pre-opening sleep over with a scavenger hunt and other contests to find eight people that will get to be on the inaugural ride of The Dark Knight. The camp out will be held in the Great Adventure parking lot on May 14. Participation costs $124.99, and that’s just for a chance to win one of the eight spots.

Great Adventure isn’t just about the rides though. They have some great shows and entertainment too. The Starburst Thursday Night Concert Series returns this year with shows every Thursday night from June 29 – August 14. Last year’s Thursday concerts featured pop sensations like Ne-Yo, Katharine McPhee and the Jonas Brothers.

Great Adventure is also hosting the Sunday Rocks! concert series with live music every Sunday evening in July and August. Raven Symone is already scheduled to perform on August 24. All of the concerts are included with park admission or your season pass.

Another new entertainment feature at Great Adventure this year is the Glow in the Park Parade. This nightly light show will feature custom-designed floats and state-of-the-art special effects and parade technology along with characters, puppeteers, kinetic stilt walkers and more.

Six Flags Great Adventure opens for the 2008 summer season on May 15. General admission is $59.99, or you can buy online for 39.99. Children under 54” tall get in for $29.99, and kids under 2 are free.
